The bride and groom met in the fall of their first year on the same campus. The groom had transferred his Sophomore year and the bride was a Freshman. The groom was immediately smitten. Their first date was to a OKC Thunder game, and lo and behold the kiss cam found them…not the easiest first date activity, your first kiss on the kiss cam, but they were both thunder struck and the rest is for the Oklahoma Thunder history books.
M & P loved their college life and felt great dedication to their alma mater. Their wedding weekend would end up being a fun reunion with the people they loved the most and the ones that were there when they fell in love. The bride was from Oklahoma City, and it the perfect location for their church wedding and country club reception. They began the weekend with the rehearsal dinner with a buyout at their favorite Mexican restaurant, Barrio’s. The bride wore the most perfect Zimmerman dress that matched the fun and festive vibe of the Mexican themed evening. Custom lettering greeted guests as they entered the establishment a mariachi band was playing, appetizers and mini versions of specialty cocktails were being passed. Custom linens, thatched hangings, table numbers with stories of what happened in their relationship during that number year gave guests futher insight into their courtship. The best speeches were given by family members and best friends. Guests were invited to the mercado where they were given bag choices to fill with all their favorite mexican treats, like soda pop, chips, candy and salsa. After the rehearsal dinner other guests began streaming in to the Welcome Party held out on the patio, with music and margaritas. Such a fun way to begin this special weekend.
The couple was living in Tulsa, the groom’s hometown, so they attended their wedding counseling in Tulsa with the local priest, who they became close to and he ended up joining with the local priest to perform the wedding ceremony. It was a special joining of the two cities. The bride’s parents repeated a wonderful tradition from their own wedding of providing trees for the wedding. Their gifts were magnolia trees that flanked the entrance of the church and would later be planted in the bride and groom’s yard.
The bride came with the most fun concept for the wedding. She wondered would it be possible for it to begin in black and white and then in stages get more colorful until during the dancing it was full color….the answer was an emphatic YES! It wasn’t the easiest thing to figure out but when we did it was magic!! The wedding party was dressed in classic black, the bridesmaids dresses were taffeta and fitted, the bride and groom’s sisters were their witnesses and each had a unique black and white dress. The bride’s dress was a modern classic, deep v column dress with a sheer overlay that she did not wear during the first look, maintaining a bit of a surprise for the groom. The groom wore a custom Tom Ford tuxedo. It was a beautiful classic church wedding, across the street from the home where the bride grew up.
The reception began with an outdoor cocktail hour, all black and white, with trays of drinks passed with his and hers in black and white on the trays. Guests made their way to the seating chart that went from black and white to colorful paper flowers “growing’ out of the white flowers. They made their way into the dining space where all tables were outfitted in black and white linens, with colorblocked florals and edged painted menus. Classic houndstooth check had been a common pattern from the beginning, on the save the date and then again on the invitation, included was a tulip pattern both in black and white and a colorful version. Again the houndstooth pattern was found on the oversized bar set in the midst of the all of the creative food stations. The dancing location was hidden behind draping, where a cozy club vibe was created with tet-a-tetes, comfy couches, acrylic bar tables covered with the tulip design. The centerpiece was the disco ball, floral installation centered over the dance floor, again covered by the houndstooth check. The band begin playing and the dance floor was always packed! The bride and groom changed into all black for the dancy part of the night and joined the band on stage where lead the entire crowd into the best dance party ever! Boxes of sliced pizza were passed out for a late night snack along with black trucker hats embroidered with lightining bolts in bright colors. A nod to that first date, where lightening struck at the Thunder game. But the piece de resistance was a surprise for the bride’s father. He was a member of the Pride of Oklahoma, the marching band for the bride and groom’s alma mater and as a surprise to the bride’s dad the marching band was brought in for the grand exit where they marched in playing the iconic OU fight song, BOOMER SOONER. The entire crowd joined in and as summer storm blew through the group was lead to the porto cochere where the bride’s father joined the band on the tuba and proudly gave his daughter the best grand exit a newly married couple could ask for! BOOMER!
